Parenting is a beautiful gift, and also a testing growth experience. With Covid going on, it can certainly be even more trying. Let’s lean on Jesus for help and get into the Word together. Here I’m sharing some simple ideas for coping with the hard parts of parenting during a pandemic. Some of these are very obvious however I think it’s always good to have a written reminder! I hope this list blesses you and your family.
10 Encouraging Parenting Tips with Bible Verses During Covid
Remember, regardless of what is going on, your children are a gift, a blessing, and a light in your life. Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.
Do your best to be a role model to your kids for how you’d like them to handle hard situations. Display your faith in front of them. Pray with them. Talk to them about trusting God in situations. Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Just as you are a parent, God is your Father. He will take care of you and love you even more so than you could ever care for and love your own children. Take comfort that knowledge. Psalm 103:13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
Our God never changes and lives eternally. He loved us before a pandemic, He loves us during a pandemic, and He will love us after a pandemic. His love will never end! Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Take things day by day. Even the Bible says to take this approach. Parenting comes with joys and challenges, fun and stress. Pile on top a worldwide pandemic and it’s adds up to a lot on a parent. Try to take a breather and remember to focus just on today with your family. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
God has already won. He told us ahead of time that we would face uncertainty and hard circumstances during our life on earth. But one glorious day we will be in God’s perfect heaven if we’ve accepted Him as our Savior. It’s something I look forward to one day and it helps us push through when life isn’t always easy. John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
Do your best to fellowship. It is certainly not as easy right now and precautions should be taken. There are many ways to fellowship. Start with your family that you live with. Invest consciously in spending quality time together on a regular basis instead just letting the mundane day to day tasks take over. Your kids need you - they may be lacking in the extra enrichment that other relationships in their lives gave them from those they aren’t able to see as much or at all anymore. And make time to call, FaceTime, and text your family, relatives, and friends. It’s very easy to let it fall to the wayside, but do it. They might need you as much as you need them. Make the first move if you haven’t talked to someone in a while. Help your kids connect with those they miss even if it’s just on FaceTime. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Every now and then, shake things up for your kids. Do something special or something different. Show them that you love them. Build a blanket fort, make a cool sensory bin, or go for an adventure at a park you haven’t been to before. Invest in your children’s mental health as much as your own. And on that note, don’t forget to spend a little time doing whatever it may be that fills up your own tank too. 1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.
Pray. Pray alone. Pray together. Always pray. Talk to Jesus. He is the best listener, and He loves you, and He loves your kids. Tell Him how you feel, He will love you regardless. Ask Him for change to occur in the world, ask Him for help to deal with things. Whatever is on your heart, bring it to the Lord. It’s a relieving feeling just giving your burdens over to the One who can handle anything. Let’s teach our kids this, it is a life changing and powerful tool. Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
I believe that the Lord gave me a verse at the very beginning of the pandemic. I wasn’t fearful at the time because no one knew how far things were going to go, so I was confused about why the Lord was giving me this verse. But it has helped me so much over time dealing with the emotional ups and downs of what is going on in the world and I’m very grateful I’ve had it to hold onto. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
