The Beatitudes

The beatitudes are blessings from the Lord that Christians will receive. We can gain hope from knowing that through the trials of life there will be rewards. These blessings were spoken by Jesus during his Sermon on the Mount recorded in the book of Matthew. Let’s take a look at what He has promised.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus says that those of us who understand that we cannot compare to the greatness of God and that we need him to save us are the ones who will be in heaven
“Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.”
When we have Jesus, we are never alone. In all situations that we must endure on this earth, we will have Him to help us get through.
“Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.”
The Lord wants to bless us here on earth, and one way to receive that is to have humility. On the flip side, pride will not be rewarded.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
When we search for how to be Christ-like, He will always reveal to us how to live.
“Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.”
God is full of mercy and freely gives it to all, and He just asks that we do the same.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”
We receive a pure heart when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and He wipes away all our sins. Those of us who do this will see God in heaven one day!
“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.”
Peace is one of the fruits of the spirit that we naturally demonstrate after believing in Jesus, and once we have that belief we are sons and daughters of God.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
As Christians, many of us face people coming against us for following the Lord’s commands. But in the end we are the ones that are blessed with eternity in heaven.
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Those who came before us, including Jesus, were treated badly for their faith. He told us that if we follow Him we will have trials in this life. But we can be joyful in knowing that we will be receiving eternal rewards that will never fade!
Quotes portions from Matthew 5:3-12 NKJV.
Let’s be joyful in God‘s promises for those who love Him! The trials of this world are very temporary, but the rewards of having them last forever.
